SUPPORT GROUPS PEER FACILITATOR: NOTICE OF CONTRACT
CLOSING: SEPTEMBER 1, 2022
ONE Contract with the Consumer Involvement & Initiative Peer Led Workshops Program (Voices and Visions)
Location of Work: Vancouver (in-person and online via Zoom)
Duration of Placement: 6 month contract, with potential to renew
Pay and Hours: $20 an hour, up to 8 hours maximum per month
Job Description:
The Vancouver Voices and Visions groups are peer-led support groups based on the International Hearing Voices Network. Their aim is to be a place where people who hear voices, see visions, or have other unusual/unique sensory experiences can give and receive support, share techniques for living well with their experiences and/or explore the meaning those experiences have for them. The groups are facilitated by peers who support the smooth functioning of the group and make relevant resources available to participants.
Duties include:
- Set-up and take-down of room (may involve moving tables and chairs)
- Co-facilitate support group meetings – ensuring meetings run smoothly
- Be open to a range of ways of understanding experiences
- Ensure everyone has a chance to speak
- Draw on Hearing Voices Network resource materials in discussions and make these and other resources available to participants
- Share personal experience for the benefit of the group or individuals
- Attend quarterly team meetings, communicate with site staff, promote the Support Groups, and complete paperwork as required
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will:
- have lived/living experience of hearing voices, seeing visions, or having other unusual/unique sensory experiences
- have completed a group facilitation training or willingness to complete one
- have prior experience with group facilitation (considered an asset)
- have completed a Peer Support Training Program or equivalent (considered an asset)
- have excellent listening and communication skills
- be able to maintain confidentiality and work cooperatively
- be able to attend sessions consistently and be highly reliable to commitments
- be able to effectively use a computer, phone, email, and Zoom
- be able to present in a professional manner
- be able to successfully complete a criminal record check (organized by us)
Time Commitment:
We have a number of groups running at different sites in Vancouver on different days. We are looking for a peer facilitator to co-facilitate the following groups:
- 2nd Monday of each month at South Mental Health Team (#200 – 1200 W 73rd Ave, Vancouver, BC V6P 6G5)
- One Thursday per month at Joseph & Rosalie Segal & Family Health Centre (803 W 12th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1N1) – which Thursday is TBD
- Availability to sub the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month on Zoom
You would be part of a rotating team of facilitators. Our groups are facilitated by teams of two peers. Each session you facilitate requires a two hour time commitment.
